A masthead preamplifier is an electronic low-noise amplifier placed on a telecommunications tower (also known as a base transceiver station) close to the antenna. The main function of the amplifier is to reduce the noise figure, thereby increasing the overall sensitivity of the base transceiver station. Before the received signal enters the feeder, the received signal can be amplified by nearly 12dB, which improves the uplink signal quality, improves call reliability and voice quality, and at the same time expands the cell coverage area.
